Top 3 Favorites to Win the 2020 Kentucky Derby
Favorites
Tiz the Law, Art Collector, and Honor A.P. are the current favorites to win the 2020 Kentucky Derby. Tiz the Law won the 2020 Belmont Stakes. Below is the full Belmont Stakes 2020 finishing order:
- Tiz the Law
- Dr Post
- Max Player
- Pneumatic
- Tap It to Win
- Sole Volante
- Modernist
- Farmington Road
- Fore Left
Tiz the Law -135 – Trainer Barclay Tagg won the 2003 Kentucky Derby with a gelding named Funny Cide. On Saturday, Tagg hopes to win the Derby with a horse that, no doubt, will go off as one of the lowest-priced favorites in Derby history.
Tiz the Law won the Belmont Stakes, this year’s first Triple Crown race, and the Travers Stakes. Overall, the Constitution sired runner is 5-of-6 in the win department and has banked over $2 million.
Art Collector +500 – Since landing in trainer Thomas Drury’s barn, Art Collector has gone undefeated. Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini sired but that’s not the real reason to consider this one the top rival to Tiz the Law. Art Collector beat top filly Swiss Skydiver to win the Grade 2 Blue Grass. He has a similar running style to Tiz the Law but is bred to like the distance more than the chalk. Why? Distorted Humor sired Art Collector’s broodmare.
Honor A.P. +750 – The John Shirreffs’ trained colt finished second in the Shared Belief Stakes in his last. That’s not an issue. Shirreffs trained Zenyatta and won the Derby with Giacomo. So, we know A.P. is in good hands. Not only that but the more distance the better with Honor Code’s son.
Top 3 Longshots to Win the 2020 Kentucky Derby
Thousand Words +2200 – Purchased for $1 million at the Keeneland September sale, Pioneerof the Nile sired Thousand Words just like he sired Bob Baffert trained Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Baffert unleashed Thousand Words to win the Shared Belief Stakes. The Baffert trainee won the race on the front-end. Words kicked it into gear after Cezanne and Honor A.P. challenged him in the stretch. That makes this guy a serious contender for the roses on Saturday.
New York Traffic +5500 – The other Baffert runner, Authentic, worked hard has heck to hold off New York Traffic and win the Haskell Invitational. Saffie Joseph Jr. trains, which might be a knock because Saffie is a Gulfstream Park trainer. Still, New York Traffic’s turn of foot was so impressive in the Haskell that we must consider him a legit longshot contender.
Money Moves +8000 – Over the weekend, Todd Pletcher said Money Moves will enter to run in the Derby. Candy Ride sired, which means this guy could run for days. Also, the second-place finish behind Prioritize at Saratoga in his last was just his third lifetime race. There’s plenty of upside here while the nature of this year’s Derby could lead to an unfathomable victory.
